Eric Nelsen has worked in technical roles in the printing industry for nearly 30 years.

In the years before joining Xitron, he spent time at a few different companies that taught him different lessons. He worked at a graphic arts dealer, doing integrations, installations, support, and color management. He worked for a late 90’s early 2000’s internet-bubble printing software start-up that was later sold to Kinkos. He has been at Xitron for the past 15 years.

Currently he is focused on building products for industrial inkjet, and is thankful to be part of a great team that is equally focused.

Navigator DFE

Eric Nelson, Xitron (InterTech Award Recipient)

Xitron’s Digital Front End (DFE) is a customizable, brandable, browser-based user interface for processing print jobs through any number of today’s high-speed digital and inkjet presses. Adaptable to the underlying technology of printhead selection, drive electronics and engine controls, Navigator DFE allows operators to prepare their job runs, manage the color accuracy, and drive the press at full rated speed, even when variable data is present on every page.Based on the fast and accurate Harlequin Host Renderer RIP from Global Graphics software, Navigator DFE is a scalable solution designed to handle almost any high-speed press requirement. Existing Navigator DFE implementations include single color, multi-color, multi-printhead, single sided and duplex imaging conditions, found in transactional, label, and direct mail applications. Navigator DFE is intended for inkjet press manufacturers who have designed fast, accurate, high speed printing systems but lack the robust job management and color control demanded by quality printers, brand owners, and the markets they serve. Custom integration with proprietary paper handling systems is possible through the manufacturer’s API, or Xitron’s API can run in the background of the manufacturer’s system.Navigator DFE currently supports drive electronics from Meteor and Global Inkjet Systems and directly drives Memjet and Canon Finetech heads. All Memjet heads are supported including Northstar, Sirius, VersaPass, Aspen, Beech, DuraLink, and DuraFlex. Also supported is HP’s Fixed Imager 1000 “Bar-in-Box” PageWide technology printhead. Worldwide, there are several press manufacturers who have already incorporated Navigator DFEs into their systems, including (but not limited to) Colordyne, Kirk-Rudy, W & D, Printware, and SuperWeb Digital.
